About

The Coomealla-Wentworth Cricket Club is based in the Far South-Western New South Wales. We have teams in the Senior Men's, Senior Women's and Junior competitions of the Sunraysia Cricket Association. We play our home matches at both the George Gordon Oval in Dareton and the McLeod Oval in Wentoworth.

The Coomealla Wentworth Cricket Club was formed in 1996 when two teams (Coomealla & Wentworth CCs) amalgamated.  It is the only cricket club wholly based on the New South Wales side of Sunraysia, competing in the highly competitive Sunraysia Cricket Association (SCA).  The townships which the club represent are surrounded by orchards of grapes and oranges, which are the main source of employment to the region.

The cricket club boasts excellent facilities, including two turf wickets, cricket clubrooms, excellent training facilities as well as a bowling machine.  The wickets and facilities at the Wentworth ground in particular are so well respected that the Victorian State Cricket Association (VCA) chose for many years to run a pre-season September training camp at the ground.  Players such as Merv Hughes, Dean Jones, Matthew Elliott and Brad Hodge all played at Wentworth during this period.

Another reason for the VCA training in Wentworth is the excellent weather.  Average maximum temperatures from November to March are approximately 30 degrees, however it is not unusual to play the occasional game in temperatures as high as 40 degrees.  Minimum average temperatures are around 15 degrees for the same period.  We are located in one of the driest parts of Australia and rain very rarely interrupts the cricket season.

The cricket club is a country based cricket club located 15 minutes from Mildura (pop. 40,000).  Mildura is considered an inland city and has all the facilities.  In addition we are located just 4 hours drive from Adelaide, and club bus trips to Adelaide after play on Saturday to watch a Test or One-Day International on the Sunday are common.

The cricket club fields four senior sides, four to five junior sides depending on playing numbers (Under 10, 12, 14 and 16) as well as a successful womens team.  The cricket season generally begins in the first week of October and concludes by the end of March, including finals matches.  A T20 competition exists in conjunction with the proper season which is made up of 7 one day and 7 two day matches played each Saturday.  Eight teams exist in the competition with each team playing each other twice.

Although located 4 hours from the nearest city, the SCA has enjoyed a successful history in recent seasons in providing English players with good competitive cricket with excellent facilities and great weather.  Craig Wright (Scottish Captain) is the most high profile overseas player of recent seasons to play here.  Four to five English cricketers have played in the SCA each season over the last 10 years, with the majority of these players returning for a second season which is a great reflection of their satisfaction in playing cricket in the SCA.  Jamie Siddons, the highest run scorer in state cricket history, also played in the SCA for a number of seasons, as well as Mark Cleary (Australia A).

The cricket club offers a very enjoyable and social atmosphere for all players and their families.  Various social functions are organised throughout the season.  Located near the river, water skiing is also popular amongst players after the game on Saturday evening or Sunday.

The cricket club welcomes anyone looking for a game of cricket, at a range of levels.
